Seiko NPC Corporation (HQ: Taito-ku, Tokyo; President: Hiroaki Okawa) started selling the oscillator IC “WF7701”, for crystal oscillators, which simultaneously generates two oscillation signals of different frequencies (32.768 kHz and MHz band).
The market of smartphone and tablet continue to expand due to the transition to 5G mobile communication systems (5G). In recent years, the wearable equipments which are their peripheral devices (wristband type, glasses type, clip type, etc.) are also extremely expanded. In typical wearable equipment, a frequency signal 32.768 kHz for clock units and a frequency signal of MHz band are required. And, for that purpose, two sets of crystal blank and oscillator IC are required. Since this new product IC has two oscillation circuits, it is possible to generate the necessary two types of frequency signals simultaneously just by connecting one crystal blank.
1. Generates two oscillation signals by using only one IC
Since this new product IC has two oscillation circuits, it is possible to generate both the frequency of 32.768 kHz and the frequency signal of MHz band by using only one IC.
2.Preparation of only one crystal blank
Typical wearable equipment requires two crystal blanks to generate two different frequency signals, an AT-cut type crystal blank for MHz band frequencies and a tuning fork type crystal blank for 32.768 kHz frequency are being prepared. By using the above new product IC, customers only need to prepare AT-cut crystal blanks, which reduce workload and costs for customers’ oscillator production.
3.Reducing current consumption
Although it is possible to simultaneously output a frequency signal of MHz band and a frequency signal of 32.768 kHz for clock units, it is also possible to output only the 32.768kHz frequency signal by the control signal to the mode terminal. When outputting only the 32.768 kHz frequency signal, it operates with ultra-low current consumption.
