Nippon Precision Circuits Inc. (NPC) has recently completed development of the SM5956AF, a 6-channel asynchronous sample rate converter (SRC) designed for use in automobile multimedia networking. The new product is now in volume production and shipping.
As a 6-channel sample rate converter, the SM5956AF makes it easy to apply audio data to automobile multimedia networks, providing a timely solution to the fast-growing trend toward DVDs and similar applications that use multiple channels and sampling rates. With the capability to asynchronously convert the sampling rate of each of the input/output signals for six channels, the SM5956AF removes any worries about the synchronization relationship and differences in the sampling rate between the set itself and its automobile multimedia network when data such as 5.1-channel surround signals is exchanged.
The input sampling rate of the SM5956AF has enough width to cover the range from 10 to 200 kHz. In addition, two of the six channels are equipped with a de-emphasis filtering function that, along with the digital audio interface output function, makes it easy to send data internally within the set as well as externally.
What's more, the SM5956AF comes in a 48-pin QFP package that dramatically reduces its size. As one example, the SM5956AF requires 66% less installation space than a configuration that uses an existing NPC product to provide functions equivalent to those of the SM5956AF.
The new SM5956AF not only allows you to implement applications using multiple channels and sampling rates designed for use in automobile multimedia networking -- typified by the Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) technology -- but it does so more easily and in a much smaller area.
The SM5956AF is just one more example of NPC's commitment to deploying products that simultaneously fill customer needs and address a variety of applications.
