NPC realizes 700MHz with Low Voltage of 2.5V and starts trial shipments of two series of LVDS (LVPECL) Output Applied BiCMOS IC for High Frequency Oscillators.
Nippon Precision Circuits Inc.* has completed the development of two types of ICs, CF5036 series and CF5037 series for high frequency oscillators. Both these ICs generate a stable clock necessary for high-speed network equipment and shipment of them has started.

This product is a BiCMOS IC for oscillators that allows differential output for high frequency operation at a maximum of 700MHz with a low voltage of 2.5V. By just connecting the SAW resonator or a crystal oscillator, it is possible to easily realize a compact SMD type of a differential output oscillator. A basic wave oscillation of 80MHz to 700MHz by SAW or crystal, or a triple wave crystal oscillation of 80MHz to 250MHz is possible. As a method of differential output, differential VPECL output for the CF5036 series and a LVDS output for the CF5037 series are applied. Recently in the field of network equipment a stable clock in the range of high frequency exceeding 200MHz is required because of the demand for faster and higher frequency of serial transmission, built-in memory, FPGA and ASIC.

This product allows creating of a SAW resonator for oscillators at 700MHz (one port) and triple wave crystal oscillation at 250MHz. The realization of one chip buffer and oscillator in high frequency range was difficult due to the problem of output noise causing wraparound generation and additional need for broader oscillation coverage. However, NPC applied a uniquely developed BiCMOS process and Corpitts oscillator terminal to solve these problems.
In the triple wave crystal oscillator terminal, the drive level of the crystal tends to be excessive, and this increases the risk of oscillation abnormality (jitter increase). NPC succeeded in reducing the drive level to approximately 1/8 to 1/4 compared to our previous products.

With the wide range of operational power source voltages from 2.25V to 3.6V, the new CF5036 and CF5037 services can be applied to both 2.5V power source and 3.3V power sources.
